MARCH IS NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH
National Nutrition Month, created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, promotes the benefits of healthy eating and physical activity for everyone. This year’s theme, “Put Your Best Fork Forward” reminds us that making small changes count towards our overall health. So why not take a small step towards the farm to school movement by adding more local food items to a school menu or visiting a local farm

Here at Canfield Local Schools, we want to provide our students with the best tools and education to succeed; including what is on their plate. Our lunches we provide to our students are a well-balanced healthy meal to keep them fueled throughout the day.
In 2011, First Lady Michelle Obama helped initiate standards that improved the food served to students in schools. The school meals have more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables; low-fat dairy products; and less sodium and fat.
2015- 2020 DIETARY GUIDLINES RELEASED–the guidelines are studied and released every five years. Americans are advised to significantly cut back on one prevalent nutrient :sugar. Americans are also advised to cut back on red and processed meats and shift to consuming more nuts , seeds, legumes and seafood. An additional major change actually loosens restrictions on cholesterol, dropping the guidance to limit cholesterol from foods to 30 mg a day. To read the DGA in full, visit guidelines/2015
